LETTER FROM CAMBURN:
Greetings from the Pacific Northwest. This is my second attempt in sending this, I don't think the first message made it. If this is your second copy, my apologies. Cam, my wife, and I are looking forward to the big trip back in a few weeks. I remember my first grasser; spring of 59. When I woke up the following morning I didn't know where my car was. Our leader (Snyder or Schwartje) took us on so many switch backs on the way to the site I had no idea where it was. "Michael Row Your Boat A Shore" brings back fond memories. Haven't seen many of you since 1962. Ran into Bob Norsworthy in Key Biscayne, Florida in the spring of 78. Saw Don Lang in Burlington, Iowa in the late 60's or early 70's and Gary Deaner in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in the mid 60's. Tom and Judy Richardson lived in Portland for a few years. They moved back to the Detroit are this past spring. Cam and I got together with them often and enjoyed their company and talking about the good old days. Jerry and Pat Richardson came to Portland for a visit a year or two ago so we all got together. Tom and Judy are the only ones I know that looked forward to going to the Detroit area to retire. I met Cam while working in the Detroit area; she was working on her masters at Wayne State. Life has been good to us. We've been married for 35 years and have been blessed with three wonderful daughthers, all have finished college and are doing well. Of the three we had one Jock, a swimmer who competed through college. One is married and we have two grandchildren (boy & girl). We left the Detroit area in 1965. I went to work with Wausau Insurance and have been in the commercial property/casualty insurance industry since. My focus has been on major industrial and construction accounts. Wausau moved me to Portland, OR in the mid 70's. I left Wausau in 87 and went with Johnson & Higgins for about five years. Moved to Durham & Bates,a local firm, in 92. Yes, it does rain in the Pacific Northwest - about 40 inches or so a year. To keep our sanity and play golf without rain gear, we have a home in Las Vegas we go to once a month or so during the raining season. Over the years I had many positive experiences both in my business and personal life. I can't think of an awful lot I would change except: I would have bought Microsoft when it first went public (I was going to but changed my mind), I wouldn't have sold Intel at $40 and I would have bought Nike when it was at $10. That about sums up the 37 years for me.
Best Regards, Jim Camburn
